About our network
Together WAEC and Managed Moves provide a wrap-around model of individual support for young people in Years 9-11 when they are faced with challenging circumstances. We serve schools across West Auckland.
Founded in the early 2000s, the Waitākere Alternative Education Consortium (WAEC) is a West Auckland network that supports young people who have become disengaged from mainstream education.
It brings together schools, alternative education providers, community organisations, youth services and support agencies to provide a more coordinated and holistic response for rangatahi who are at risk of poor educational and life outcomes.

Managed Moves helps people find the right pathway
Every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed. But sometimes a student's current school environment is no longer the right fit.
Managed Moves West Auckland, delivered through the Waitākere Alternative Education Consortium (WAEC), provides a positive and supportive way forward.
A Managed Move is a voluntary process that helps a student transition from one school to another school, or into an alternative pathway, when a change of environment may better support their learning, wellbeing and future success.
Rather than focusing on the challenges that have occurred, the process focuses on finding the best pathway forward and creating opportunities for a fresh start.
Managed Moves is built on collaboration between the student, their whānau, schools and support agencies. The aim is to ensure that young people remain connected to education while building confidence, positive relationships and a renewed sense of belonging.
