WAITAKERE ALTERNATIVE

EDUCATION CONSORTIUM

Building belonging, confidence and pathways to success

The Waitākere Alternative Education Consortium (WAEC) is about more than education. WAEC supports young people who need a different pathway to reconnect with learning, build confidence and achieve their goals.

WAEC helps young people develop:

  • A sense of belonging

  • Positive relationships

  • Confidence and self-worth

  • Engagement with learning

  • Pathways to future success

We connect education, health, wellbeing, social services and community programmes to help young people ages 13-16 (years 9-11) to find their way forward.

Our experienced team is trusted by schools across West Auckland and works alongside whānau, community groups and schools to create positive outcomes when they are needed most.

Whānau Voice

““I see he is happy and has a lot more confidence in himself.”

“The learning environment has been thoughtfully matched to his needs.”

“I could trust these workers with any worries or conversation.”

What is WAEC?

Founded in the early 2000s, we are a West Auckland network that supports young people who have become disengaged from mainstream education.

We bring together schools, alternative education providers, community organisations, youth services and support agencies to provide a more coordinated and holistic response for rangatahi who are at risk of poor educational and life outcomes.

If you have come to us for help, be assured. We are here for you
